I followed the advice of people who put ricarro racing seats into MK4's that would normally have airbags in them, but racing seats do not. to bypass the seat airbag I used a 4.7ohm resistor, .25 watt. you can get a hundred of them for about 1.50$ from digikey, or mouser. let me get a part number and link here.
Yes, it could be the clock spring. It could be other items as well, including the ignighter. In dealing with a friend's 1.8 T Golf on this, I discovered that the clock spring assembly is completely different for cars with ESP and on ones with out.
The ASR or ESP dashboard light on a Golf/Bora can come on after around 10 minutes of driving but if engine turned off and on it goes again. This is because t
In the video, I show how to remove and install new daytime running lights on a Volkswagen Golf mk4. I replaced the standard w5w bulb with a red 194R LED bulb

First connect red cable to the positive terminal of your Golf’s dead battery, then to the positive terminal of donor battery. Next connect black cable to the negative terminal of donor battery, then to the bare metal in the engine bay of your Golf. Start the donor vehicle and then your Golf. Remove the cables in reverse order.

A sensor detects that the seat belt is properly fastened. This can lead to a false or inaccurate reading. Something in the buckle, such as a coin, receipt, or something else can trigger a false warning light. Sometimes a damaged clockspring can keep the airbag from deploying. If the airbag is broken, it will cause the warning light to illuminate.
that is incorrect. as long as the airbag light is on, they will NOT function. the issue could be related to the seat belt tensioner, which if malfunctioning, could cause death with the airbags functioning. when the light is ON, the function is OFF. this is true for: ABS, ASR, airbags, etc. RTOM.
