You cast it on the target, if the target is killed while the spell is in effect, their soul is trapped - iof the duration ends before they die it doesn't. So don't cast it first thing and *then* start whacking away. Cast it when their health is low. Black soul gems only trap the souls of *people*, not animals (and Falmer count as animals).

You can't that I know of, when you use the soulgem for enchanting, it will destroy the gem. best thing to do is carry a few gems of different types, like 5 of the lesser, petty, common, great, and grand, the smallest soul will go into the smallest gem that can hold it. You could of course use a console command to give yourself
